Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL), a major player in the Indian FMCG industry has announced Godrej Ezee ‘Rahaat – Ek Abhyaan’ a winter wear donation drive in association with the Rotary International District 3010. This is the 2nd year of the initiative, last year Godrej Ezee Raahat Ek Abhiyaan was done in Delhi NCR region and had received tremendous response. Around 350 collection centres were created and 10 lakh woolens distributed in Delhi NCR. This year the initiative is being extended to 3 cities of UP. Kanpur, Agra and Aligarh.

Every year thousands of people are badly affected by the cold wave that sweeps the Northern regions, especially in Delhi, NCR and U.P. 2003 and 2005 have been the worst winters in the last 10 years and maximum deaths were reported in these years. Last year, there was no major report of winter death from Delhi NCR region. Part of it may have been contributed by the success of Raahat Ek Abhiyaan. GCPL along with Rotary had thus taken a first step towards resolving the problem with this initiative.

Commenting on the initiative, Mr. V Suresh, Vice President, Marketing, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, said, “We are concerned about the cold wave that claims so many lives every year. Last years drive has given us confidence that we can make a difference. Through Godrej Ezee ‘Rahaat - Ek Abhyaan’ winter wear donation drive we will attempt to reach maximum homeless and needy to provide them with winter wear to fight the severe cold waves. To implement this initiative we have partnered with Rotary, who with their expertise and vast network will ensure maximum reach in and around the vicinity. ”

Gracing the occasion popular Bollywood personality Mahima Choudhary emphasised “Delhi winters can be mercilessly cruel, the biting cold and the dry weather are responsible for a high level of mortality this time of year. I am humbled to be associated with this noble cause to help the poor and destitute. The privileged often take basic necessities like woolen clothes for granted; blissfully unaware of how important this can be for the less fortunate.”

Rtn. Mukesh Arneja, DG, RID 3010 said, “We are very happy to lend our support to GCPL. This was a concern area that was left unaddressed for quite some time. With the support of our 500 centers in Delhi NCR, Kanpur, Aligad and Agra and 4000 rotarians we will ensure the success of this initiative.”

This drive will entail over 500 collection centers, RWA’s (Residential Welfare Associations) and all Reliance Web World outlets which will be set up across Delhi, NCR, Lucknow, Agra and Aligarh. Rotary club of Delhi Maurya is the parent body of the ground activities headed by the president Dr K.K Goel. The project co-ordinator is Mrs Deepshikha. Any individual who wishes to donate their winter wear can do so by either visiting the Rotary centers, the selected RWA’s and the Reliance Web World outlets which are being constantly announced on BIG FM and the newspapers. There will be banners put up near each collection point to facilitate the donor.

In addition, mobile collection centers will be rolled out wherein vans will map the areas of Delhi NCR, Lucknow, Aligarh and Agra. There will be constant announcements on the citing of the vans as well as the RJ’s visiting these vans to get views of the people on the cause. All the collection centers will act in sync following which the collected winter wear will be personally distributed amongst the homeless and needy.
