District 3010. This initiative is aimed to help the needy
face the cold wave that claims many lives.
Every
year thousands of people are badly affected by the cold
wave that sweeps the Northern regions, especially in Delhi
and NCR. In New Delhi, an estimated 100,000 homeless people
are extremely vulnerable. Last year the death toll reached
a figure of 205, due to a steep fall in temperature. This
was a pressing issue which had to be addressed sooner or
later, as with every approaching winter situations seem
to worsen and so does the state of the homeless. GCPL along
with Rotary have taken a first step towards resolving the
problem with initiative.
Commenting
on the initiative, Mr. Adi Godrej, CMD, Godrej Group, said,
“We are concerned about the cold wave that claims
so many lives every year. The number has been showing an
increasing trend and thus we feel the need to curb it. Through
Godrej Ezee ‘Rahaat – Ek Abhyaan’ winter
wear donation drive we will attempt to reach maximum homeless
and needy to provide them with winter wear to fight the
severe cold waves. To implement this initiative we have
partnered with Rotary, who with their expertise and vast
network will ensure maximum reach in and around the vicinity.”
